I’m a computer geek

Raneko have collected and photographed the Apple Mouse evolution. So beautiful.
I’m longing for the Wave
30 May, 2009 in Technology with no commentsGoogle Wave is what everyone is talking about at the moment. It’s a new tool for communication and collaboration on the web, coming later this year. I want it now!
Update: What the hell is programming all about?

I’m a big fan of augmented reality at the moment. How many websites do you think will contain this technology this year?
What have I done so far in my work with my technology essay/article?
I’ve written five pages so far, including purpose, background and methods. I’ve mostly got my information from pedagogical and kind developers but I’ve also talked to a couple of project managers to get another point of view on the subject.
So far I’ve found out that I need to learn more about (except the languages) usability, browsers, different platforms and databases, so I think I’m going to write a chapter about that as well.
I don’t have the time or the patience to read books and Wikipedia’s descriptions of the different languages are often too messy so the next step in my research phase will be to watch tutorials and YouTube clips. It’s fun with all this new things but I’ve slowed down a bit to do other stuff on my spare time as well.
I’ve noticed that some of you have misunderstood what I’m going to write about. For instance, one person came up to me today and said: “Hey Sara-Lee, have you written about PHP yet?” Well, yea a bit. “Great, then I’m gonna read your essay ’cause I’ve got some problems with it at the moment.”
So to make things clear, I’m NOT going to write about how you program in/with the different languages (because it would be impossible for me to that). I’m going to write about when they are being used, what they do and how they are connected to each other.
And I need some help from you guys, so far I’ve written about or I’m going to write about: HTML/XHTML and CSS, PHP, Java Script, MySQL, XML, Adobe Air, Silverlight, Papervision, Flash, AS3, Perl, ASP/ASP.NET, JSP, Ruby on Rails, Augmented Reality and jQuery.
What more languages, technologies, libraries and expressions to I need to know about? What have I missed?
What the hell is programming all about?
17 April, 2009 in Technology with 8 commentsI’ve got a new project going on and I know that you will either think I’m very ambitious or just out of my mind. I’m going to write an essay about the ten most used programming languages, when they are being used, how they work and how they are connected to each other. The purpose with the essay is to get a better understanding of development to become an even better project manager. This is not a school assignment, I’m going to write it in my spare time. My deadline is 20 May. I will publish a more detailed plan later on… Wish me luck!
Find the Blindspot
25 October, 2008 in Hyper Island, Installations, Personal, Technology with no commentsRole: Project manager
Agency: Hyper Island
Time duration: 3 weeks
Year: 2008
Workgroup: Sara-Lee Rost, Ole Martin Kristiansen, Byron Cerda, Markus Gustafsson
Hyper Island provided us with an arduino (which we from the beginning had no clue of what it was) and a budget of 400 SEK (= €40). The assignment was to create an interactive experience with the given technology.
We created the game Blindspot where your mission is to walk as slow, as fast as possible from one point to another. We used an infrared detector (PIR, passive infrared detector) to detect fast movement. Our biggest challenges in this project was to get the arduino to talk to Flash and vice verca. As the project manager I did all the planning and managed our extreme small budget, which mostly meant trying to get the material we needed for free.
We created, besides from the prototype, a high score and a logotype. The prototype was shown during an exhibition in Stockholm which I also participated in arranging.

We got the idea of Blindspot from a traditional game and turned it into a interactive digital game. The logo is made by Ole Martin Kristiansen.
