One of those blog post about new learnings

2 September, 2009 in Project management with 2 comments

The last days couple of days have been very hectic. Twice or even three times as much to keep track on, meanwhile I’m learning a new way of working And getting a crash course in English. I think it’s great! The guys (or Sirs) at the office involve me in everything that happens and spend much appreciated time on teaching me new things.

I’ve made some useful notes about communication to keep in mind, always:
- Create a system for handling new information before you receive it.
- Do follow-ups on important e-mails.
- It’s better to say that you need to look up things you’re not sure of instead of saying something that might turn out to be wrong. Meaning important information to the client and to the team.
- Try to avoid sending e-mails to the team unless it’s something that needs to be documented.

Might seem like commonsense but believe me, it’s not.

6 Small Things You Can Do When You Lack Discipline

17 May, 2009 in Project management with 1 comment

My friend Jogge have written a post about discipline, about us feeling crappy when we can’t stick with the things we’ve told ourselves we’re going to do.
He found a link about this leading us to more failure, because we’re forming a mindset that we don’t have the necessary discipline.
So to all of you feeling you don’t have the discipline, read 6 Small Things You Can Do When You Lack Discipline.

A meeting with Lowe Brindfors

16 May, 2009 in Advertising, Project management with 6 comments

Had the pleasure of going to Lowe Brindfors two weeks ago (my intuitive). I met with Maria Lundvall and Mikaela Rönnberg and we talked about budgets and project management in general.

The key subjects we discussed during the meeting:

  1. The difference between a producer and a project manager.
  2. How to make a budget and how to present it to the client.
  3. How to make a good pitch.

And now it’s up to you. What do you want to know more about? Post your vote in the comment field!

Time to get some rest

Yes, we were working late last night. Ha ha.

I and the other project managers after our presentations. And yes, we were working late last night. Ha ha.

This is my fifth week in Stockholm. We had our presentations today which went well, even though our client wasn’t as impressed as we had hoped for (I’ll talk more about that some other time).

Anyway, I’ve learned so much during this module about project management and everything that it involves – efficiency, structure, client relationships, group dynamics, tools on how to make the communication work easier within a group and budgets.

I’m taking the night off to get some rest before tomorrows lecture in leadership and structure and I’m promising you great news tomorrow!

SDI and group dynamics

The SDI triangle shows how a person are normally (where the arrow starts) and how they act under pressure or in conflicts (where the arrow ends).

The SDI triangle shows how a person normally is (where the arrow starts) and how he/she act under pressure or in conflicts (where the arrow ends). I'm assertive and nurturing during normal conditions and become more flexible under stress.

Hyper Island is a lot about group dynamics and self managing leadership. We always reflect upon the things we do to improve our skills and ways of doing things.
Last week we did a SDI (Strength Deployment Inventory) test, which is a tool for improving team effectiveness and reducing the costs of conflict. It’s the flagship assessment of a suite of tools based on Relationship Awareness — a learning model for effectively and accurately understanding the motive behind behavior. When you recognize the unique motivation of yourself and others, you greatly enhance your ability to communicate more effectively AND handle conflict more productively.
I am, according to the test, a assertive and nurturing person which means that I focus my energy on developing others and ensuring that they succeed. I’m enthusiastic and like to build support for key ideas or initiatives. It also meant that I’m willing to ignore procedures or details that appear insignificant.

It was great doing the SDI, to see what kind of things I need to improve and to get a better understanding for how other people work and act.
I’ve heard that some companies ask new employees if they’ve done a SDI test. Is it true and how common is it?
